Yesterday went well. I found a few additional things to add into the reading, including some background material that I’ll use in the introduction to situate the issue.
Today I’m reading more… I’m trying not to find too much at the moment. I only need enough for a solid introduction and I can always beef things up a bit later on. If I allow myself too much freedom, I’ll be reading into a spiral of discovery, and that does messy things to my ability to stick to one solid line of argument.
I’m also prepping a writers’ retreat for tomorrow – this is for the Academic Writing Programme that I’m running with the University of Bristol. I need to buy fruit, snacks, milk etc. I have to drop that into the university this afternoon so that it’s there and ready for tomorrow.
It’s also my daughter’s birthday today. So breakfast this morning was chaos with presents at the table, and this evening we’re going out for tea.
But in the midst of that, I’m taking from 10 until 12 to focus.
See you on the other side!

Addendum – it’s now 11.53, and I’ve given up for the morning. I’ve been distracted, and only really managed to read one thing through properly. It was a good thing, and really useful, but only one. Instead, I was plagued by the need to buy a jumper on Amazon, review a product I bought from B&Q, read email, fettle the fire… get a snack. I kept pulling myself back to the reading, and kept getting distracted. I also looked at the CV of the person I was reading and started thinking ‘well, I’m never going to write that much’. I have to remember… it takes time!
Right, I have other things to do.
Hope you’re doing better than me!
